Uxua is a quirky boutique hotel which has been designed to blend seamlessly into the historic centre of dreamy Trancoso

The likeable Uxua Casa Hotel & Spa is an unashamedly arty place, with earthy décor and distressed furnishings, where salt-washed colours mingle with the bright and vibrant: all rather Sunday magazine supplement. But let’s not be flippant: a lot of inspired effort went into this design, with renowned artists working together with local artists using organic natural materials (thatch and hardwood furnishings) to blend the rustic with contemporary levels of comfort.

The property has 10 cottages including renovated fishermen’s dwellings facing the sleepy quadrado (village green).  Alongside these are individually fashioned houses hidden within the tropical garden. The service is relaxed and friendly, there are two restaurants offering traditional Bahian cuisine, a spa and gym, an enticing swimming pool and exclusive attention on the beach (a 20min stroll away).

Uxua is renowned for its inspirational Artist in Casa programme, inspired by the alternative traveller generation which rediscovered Trancoso in the ‘70s. This summer’s resident will be Royal Ballet trained dancer Karis Scarlette. Between 2-17 August 2019, Karis’ workshop will feature traditional ballet techniques, artistry and strength training, and there’s even Baby Ballet for children. Contact us for details and prices.
