Among our favourite hotels in Buzios, Vila d’Este is privileged in so many ways: small and beautiful with all you need onsite yet close enough to all the variety of Buzios on its doorstep.

Vila d’Este is a charming boutique hotel with an unpretentious yet high-end feel. It was built making imaginative use of wood and stone, with an arty interior décor and individually styled rooms. Lovely communal areas are greened up by tropical vegetation, whilst the heated infinity pool overlooking the bay is a magnet for relaxation (and the occasional selfie).

Situated on a hillside, a few minutes’ uphill from town, the hotel unsurprisingly has excellent views from the terraces and the semi open-air restaurant catches the evening breeze. Each of the 20 or so guest rooms and suites is carefully thought out; needless to say we recommend the ocean front units which have balconies and sublime views but even the standard (classic) rooms which have a rear aspect are lifted by their décor and the presence of plants. The hotel hosts live music each weekend and occasional jazz. For those wishing to venture further, the restaurants and nightlife of Buzios are a short walk from the hotel.
