Copal Tree Lodge
A luxury ecolodge, spa and farm in the forested hills above the Rio Grande in southern Belize.
Copal Tree Lodge and farm is a luxurious hilltop property sitting agreeably within in Belize’s now well-established tradition of high-end eco-tourism. There are just 12 stylish and spacious thatched suites with private veranda and full-length windows overlooking exuberant jungle where you're likely to spot howler monkeys crashing through the forest. The lodge has its own working farm and exquisite gardens: bird of paradise flowers grow alongside banana palms and plum trees.
The lodge is much more than top-notch, ultra-relaxing accommodation though – in addition to the spa, its farm produces most of the food prepared at the lodge, from organic vegetables to humanely produced meat. In addition to the kitchen garden, there's a cacao plantation, shade-grown coffee and a large orange grove. The property offers chocolate making classes.
Stroll down 365 steps or take the private tram to the riverside dock and explore by kayak or canoe. From the dock you can also embark on cruises on the jungle reaches of the Rio Grande, or guided snorkeling and fishing adventures on the Caribbean Sea.
What our clients say
97% of our clients rated their experience with us as Excellent or Good.
We saw a massive variety of animals, insects and fish between the rainforest and the reef and exploring these environments with knowledgeable guides was a pleasure. Whether it was hummingbirds buzzing overhead at dinner, a boa constrictor crossing the road, a lucky glimpse of a majestic jaguar or a green sea turtle grazing on the reef it was difficult to pick a highlight moment!RW, Usk
Highlights:- “Particularly impressed by Belize lodges - obviously higher price but well equipped for activities we enjoy such as bird/animal watching, canoeing etcGW, Chinnor
Brilliant holiday, Chan Chich was superb and we really enjoyed Victoria House. Very impressed with the quality of 3 of the hotels we were staying in. We went mainly for the scuba diving in Belize which didn't fail to impress - truly world class.AA, Market Harborough
We knew nothing about Guatemala and Belize before our trip and had not visited Central America. We relied on JLA understanding our interests and the resulting recommendations proved very successful.NW, Wells
We liked Guatemala and were particularly impressed with Belize (likely to go back there)”NW, Wells
Most memorable experiences: "Tubing down river at Chaa Creek. Howler monkeys above us at night, and avocados dropping onto our hut."LBM, Woking
Local flights were amazing enabling us to really see and appreciate the country....The diversity of the local cultures and cuisine were a wonderful surprise and experience.CT, Hortley
Local flights were amazing enabling us to really see and appreciate the country. In three weeks we only met 3 other British couples as most travellers appeared to be from North America, but Belize was well worth the visit and 2012 is the end of the current Maya calendar. The diversity of the local cultures and cuisine were a wonderful surprise and experience.CT, Horley
JLA have been great, and Belize as a country is nothing short of astonishing in every way possible. We will be going back at some point. In fact I'd quite happily live there.SC, Wandsworth
There were so many highlights, but undoubtedly the most memorable part was seeing jaguars near Chan Chich on two consecutive days, and even being able to take photos of the second one. This was the main aim of our trip, having failed to reach Chan Chich in October 2008 because of flooding.CT, Crowthorne
We went mainly for the scuba diving in Belize which didn't fail to impress - truly world class.AA, Market
