Sophisticated and indulgent vineyard hotel offering fine vintages and a superb gastronomic experience on the flanks of the Andes.

Beautiful Awasi Mendoza is enveloped with vineyards some 30km south from Argentina’s wine capital of Mendoza. It is the perfect place to enjoy fine vintages and a superb gastronomic experience. The property is also listed in the prestigious Relais & Chateaux portfolio.

The main house remains faithful to Spanish colonial traditions. Sunlight floods into the cavernous sitting room and lobby with grand piano, while the cellar is stacked with dozens of Argentina’s most celebrated labels.

Each of the 14 individual, adobe-walled apartments opens onto its own Andes-facing patio with a plunge pool and romantic outdoor shower offering views to the snow-capped peaks of Cordón de Plata.

Sitting rooms have large stone-clad bathrooms with twin basins, stand-alone baths with separate shower. Décor is in keeping with the lodge’s spacious and simple architectural style: charcoal marbled floors, cool cream walls and subtle lighting predominate.

Horse-riding and trips to other wineries can be organised, and there’s a small spa offering wine therapy treatments. The excellent restaurant makes imaginative use of locally produced produce, herbs and spices.
