Comfortable Dutch-operated ship offering classic cruises to the Antarctic Peninsula.

A 2019 addition to the growing choice of ships sailing Antarctic waters is European-owned and operated Hondius, an ice-strengthened expedition ship specifically designed for travel to the polar regions.

In a smart blue and white livery, she accommodates 72 crew and expedition staff catering for 174 guests in smart but homely cabins provided with a good range of facilities. All the public areas are welcoming and cosy. One deck has a large observation lounge and separate lecture room, which host a wide variety of interactive workshops and exhibitions.

The atmosphere on board is one of professionalism, friendliness and informality, with qualified guides and presenters inspiring you with their knowledge and enthusiasm for the geography, geology, history and wildlife of the polar region.

The ship’s crew focus on fast, effective access to shore and near-shore activities, offering maximum contact with the wilderness landscapes and wildlife you travel so far to see. They operate a fleet of inflatable Zodiac boats which guarantee swift and safe landings for all, departing at the same time – there’s no queuing for a turn onshore. Another excellent facility is a sheltered indoor Zodiac embarkation platform, saving you from a wobbly jump in and out, which can also be used for special outdoor activities such as kayaking.
