Cruise hidden fjords and glaciers

DSC_3514

Enjoy a 4-night cruise deep in Patagonia, taking in the forested valleys, lakes and glaciers north of Puerto Natales.

When the terrain is as inaccessible as that of southern Patagonia, and the views as spectacular, it would be a shame not to include at least some time on the water in your itinerary.

Delving deep into remote areas other transport can’t reach, the Skorpios III explores fjords where glaciers cling to sheltered valleys. This is a comfortable ship offering a warm and cosy refuge in this land of snow and ice, exploring landscapes almost nobody has seen. The cruise is an incredible alternative - and complement - to a few days at a lodge in nearby, much better-known, Torres del Paine National Park.

Staggeringly beautiful scenery provides an ever-changing backdrop as you sail through the jagged channels of the southern Patagonian ice field, the second largest concentration of ice after Antarctica. The highlight of the route, which starts and ends in Puerto Natales, is arriving at a lake where six monumental glaciers encroach into ice-blue waters. Frequent crashes of calving ice add to the atmosphere of high drama as the glacier faces crumble into myriad of ice floes and bergs. Passengers can get closer to the action on small motor launches, and even collect a chunk of ice for a round of evening whiskies.
