Design my Trip

Late October - November

This is the start of the season in Antarctica, when the blinding white landscapes and landing sites are completely untouched by humans. You’ll be able to get up close to some of Antarctica's largest icebergs and enjoy unique wildlife spectacles. Witness the courtship rituals of penguins and other seabirds, which involve elaborate dances and the building of impressive nests to attract potential mates. During these months, elephant and fur seals also court and carve out their territories. Colourful spring flowers bloom across South Georgia, while in the Weddell Sea you’ll spot majestic Emperor penguins. Temperatures are a few degrees below zero and daylight hours stretch out until 11pm in November.

Sels Antarctica

December - January

This is summertime in Antarctica, with some of the mildest weather. On the Antarctic Peninsula, temperatures reach 0 degrees, although it grows much colder further inland. Daylight hours are at their longest, reaching 24 hours at the summer solstice in December. It's a time of new life, when fluffy penguin chicks begin to hatch and seal pups are born in South Georgia. Whale sightings also increase.

Penguin Chicks Antarctica

February - March

This is the best time to visit Antarctica for wildlife enthusiasts; humpback, minke and killer whales can be spotted more regularly, penguin chicks begin to fledge and fur seals gather in increasing numbers on the Antarctic Peninsula. Colourful algae blooms across the sparkling white snow, and as pack ice breaks up it is possible to explore deeper into the Antarctic.
