Modern vessel with a nautical feel with an emphasis on a variety of Antarctic experiences on different departures throughout the season..

The M/V Plancius offers a relaxed, expedition-style experience aboard a nautical-themed vessel staffed by a passionate team of mostly European guides – many with scientific backgrounds. With space for up to 108 guests and a crew of nearly 50, the ship is ideal for independent-minded, multinational travellers seeking immersive polar exploration. The atmosphere is informal and welcoming – with plenty of opportunities to mingle in the spacious observation lounge, which doubles as a bar and presentation room.

Daily landings – typically two per day, conditions permitting – are designed to maximise time ashore, complemented by engaging presentations, films, and slideshows that bring the polar environment to life. In addition to classic itineraries, Plancius occasionally offers special departures focused on whale-watching, hiking or bird migration – and on select Basecamp voyages, guests can enjoy optional adventure activities such as kayaking, hiking, mountaineering, snowshoeing, and camping – all included in the trip cost, except for scuba diving.

Oceanwide Expeditions is committed to protecting fragile ecosystems – directing a portion of its profits toward reforestation efforts in the Amazon Rainforest, starting with restoring over 1,600 hectares of damaged land. In addition to offsetting emissions, they support polar-focused environmental initiatives, apply best practices aboard their ships, and are working to make their supply chain more sustainable.
