It really depends on what your interests are. Nature lovers will be blown away by Costa Rica, Belize and Panama, while Guatemala and Honduras are great choices for those with an interest in history and culture. Anyone looking to find unexplored treasures off the beaten track will find Nicaragua and El Salvador a breath of fresh air. On top of this, idyllic islands dot the shore along most of Central America’s Caribbean coastline (San Blas, Ambergris Caye, Bocas del Toro and the Corn Islands are particular highlights) and the Pacific also has its share of great beaches, so there is much for those who simply love to sunbathe and swing in a hammock.

The relatively small size of Central American countries makes it particularly rewarding to combine several of them into one trip and really experience the contrasts of the region. Our Tropicbird group tour for example (also available tailor-made) takes in some of the top highlights, including Tikal, Lake Atitlán, the Panama Canal and colonial Antigua and Granada, along a diverse route through Guatemala, up-and-coming Nicaragua and Panama. If you are able to travel over Easter itself you can also experience the added bonus of Antigua’s stunning Easter celebrations.

Standards of accommodation and transport vary from the very top end to the more rustic depending on the country, but whatever you are looking for, the chances are you will find it in Central America.
