Art-focused, contemporary estancia-style luxury property in the Uruguayan countryside.

The deliciously eccentric Vik hotel group offers high end accommodation but has a declared mission of making guests feel as they were staying in their own homes. The rooms are adorned with cutting edge modernity, huge windows and mind-expanding views, jazzed up with original works of art and designs which stamp themselves on the property’s ambience in such a way that certainly can’t be ignored.

Situated in the countryside inland from the up-and-coming resort of José Ignacio along the coast from Uruguay’s famous Punta del Este. The luxury hotel conceived in colonial estancia style, has several sunny courtyards, its own stables, pool and polo field. The 12 rooms vary dramatically in style, layout, artwork and furniture, and you can choose your suite in advance to suit your taste. There are no TVs in the rooms but the property itself, with its sculptures and paintings, relates an extraordinary narrative. There’s a large pool, gym and games room, with wine tasting and other activities offered.

  • Estancia El Charabon was a highlight. Also the beaches and countryside east of José Ignacio.
