Campotinto is a chic rural posada in the heart of Uruguay’s wine producing region. It has a peaceful, natural setting – just off a very quiet country road, surrounded by vineyards and next to a beautiful mid-19th century church, with birdsong all around.

With just a handful of guest rooms the vibe is friendly and informal. You can relax in the lush gardens, take a dip in an outdoor swimming pool, try a yoga class among the vineyards and enjoy local cuisine at the restaurant. There are also delicious wines to sample from the winery. This is a pleasant location to relax in as well as venture further afield. Bikes are usually available for guests, with other wineries within easy reach on 2 wheels.

  • Estancia El Charabon was a highlight. Also the beaches and countryside east of José Ignacio.
