Humpback whale-watching

Be awed by the sight of huge humpback whales off the Pacific coast of Panama

There are various spots on the Pacific coast of Panama from which you can observe humpback whales. From July to October several thousand of these magnificent humpback whales, migrating from both hemispheres, can be spotted from the shore or boat trips which are offered from hotels, local agencies and resorts. On the Azuero Peninsula, look out for these at Pedasi, Playa Venao and Boca Chica.

The Pearl Islands have earned a reputation as a prime site for whale watching, as the animals congregate here to breed and give birth. On a boat trip from the island of Contadora, it’s possible to observe these huge and dignified creatures from up close – a truly extraordinary experience
