Peaceful and romantic lodge owned by Francis Ford Coppola, with colourful décor inspired by indigenous culture and outdoor areas where nature is allowed to take precedence.

One of film director Francis Ford Coppola’s trio of unique properties in Belize and Guatemala, La Lancha overlooks Lake Petén Itzá in the lowland jungle just 20 minutes’ drive from the archaeological masterpiece that is Tikal. It is an excellent, romantic choice for couples and honeymooners.

There are just ten rooms and suites, each brightly decorated with indigenous artefacts and warm textiles that compliment the solid carved wooden furniture. Each has access to a decked outdoor area, perfect for appreciating the tranquillity of the lake and surrounding forest.

The main lodge, with its steep thatched roof, is where you’ll take your breakfast to a chorus of tropical birds or sip a cocktail at sunset. You can take walks or boat trips from the lodge, canoe or kayak on the lake, or adventure along a canopy walkway to observe the bird life. Later, cool off with a plunge into the garden-shrouded pool or relax on a lounger.
