Cabanas del Lago
Cabanas de Lago is a smart family-friendly lakeside resort set in beautiful grounds with loads of activities.
Cabañas del Lago sits, as the name suggests, on the shores of one of northern Ecuador's largest and most beautiful lakes - Lago San Pablo, just a short drive from Otavalo. The backdrop of bottle-green mountains is stunning, and the grounds of the property are also exquisite, with flowers and tailored lawns. The imported palm trees and tiled, blond-shaded eucalyptus wood cabins lend the property an almost Mediterranean air.
It's a particularly fine choice for families, with spacious and well equipped rooms with log fire and hot water bottles for chilly nights as well as a range of child-friendly entertainments: mini-golf course, a children's activity area, play-house and a small petting zoo (rabbits and guinea pigs). You can get out onto the lake in a canoe or kayak, or on a lake cruise.

The setting of this hotel is simply beautiful, and with spacious, comfortable rooms you don’t need much more for a pleasant stay in the Andean highlands. I spent an enjoyable afternoon taking in the mountain views from a kayak on the lake and families in particular will enjoy the array of water activities on offer.
