Rio Magnolia Nature Lodge

Our Ratings

Rio Magnolia is a small rainforest ecolodge in  forested hills close to Costa Rica's Pacific coast.

Río Magnolia is a rainforest eco-lodge situated above the southern Pacific surf town of Dominical with ocean, jungle and valley views. This habitat, in the Savegre Biological Reserve, is home to many species of birds, mammals and butterflies. The lodge is surrounded by forest and coffee plantations.

There is no air-conditioning in the five suites – at 800m the temperature drops at night. Each suite is different, with a rustic, even romantic ambience, most featuring four-poster beds, stone walls and tiled floors. Some have wrap around terraces with all-embracing views. Simple it may be but the restaurant serves international wines and a menu with dishes prepared using local fresh ingredients.

This is more than just a lodge: the proprietors’ commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment is reflected in a number of initiatives, including protecting the rainforest on the property, and the place is powered by its own hydro-electricity.
