The ultra luxurious Hacienda Vik is a cutting edge contemporary art hotel on a young and thriving vineyard.

The Vik hotel group’s properties in Latin America strive to offer something unique and idiosyncratic to their guests. Their service-oriented hotels in Uruguay and Chile are first class properties with a contemporary slant which is modern-art focused.

The property in Millahue in Chile’s wine-cultivation region is situated on a vineyard (they aim to produce first class wines within 10 years). But instead of following the trend for constructing wood-based accommodation which fits readily into the natural environment the Norwegian owner has created a space-age building of concrete and glass, bright and breezy with views of the vineyard, lakes and forests beyond from the floor-to-ceiling windows of the 22  individual rooms and suites. Decoration is bold, without being fussy: your minimalist room may just have one stunning, even provocative, work of art.

It’s situated on the top of a small hill but is by no means an eye sore.  There’s a lovely infinity swimming pool and, in addition to wine-tasting and tours of the futuristic winery close by, many outdoor activities are on offer and there is a regular spas as well as a ‘wine spa’.

    SB, Milnthorpe Dec 2017
  • The three major parts, Atacama, Easter Island and Patagonia were all special in different ways.

    BM, Macclesfield Jan 2015
  • Highlight?: Difficult to separate a sunny, windless clear day at Torres del Paine ( plus several others nearly as good).  And deep snow in the Altiplano round Miscanti lakes. So…
