In stark contrast to the folksy, bucolic style of the traditional wooden edifices on Chiloé Island, this property is contemporary in style but not at the expense of local flavour. Its ultra-modern geometrical exterior is clad in classic Chilote wood shingle, giving it an unmistakable sense of place. Even inside you never feel far away from the hotel’s fabulous setting: each of its minimalist guest rooms has a picture window and sweeping fjord or wetland views. Meanwhile, the lounge – with its floor to ceiling windows – is flooded with light and warmed by an open fire. Magical.

After a day spent exploring you can unwind in the spa with Jacuzzi, steam room and massage service before settling into a delicious evening meal, accompanied by superb Chilean wines.
