Vila Kalango is a charming beach hotel right on the sands of Jericoacoara on Brazil's less developed northeast coast.

Vila Kalango combines rustic simplicity with a touch of quirky Brazilian style. Set on a yawning palm-fringed beach at one end of Jericoacoara, it truly is a barefoot place with sofas and tables that sit directly on the sand. Heavily thatched tree-house-style cabins, raised on stilts with a shady area below sporting a hammock, are connected by wooden walkways interspersed by neat lawns.

There are also polished wooden cottages caressed by tropical flowers. Throughout you’ll find cool tiles, wicker and wooden furnishings and the place is peppered with local artifacts. This isn’t a luxury hotel and the latest electronic gadgets are absent but you’ll find all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay – private bathroom, ceiling fan and minibar in the guest rooms and a spa and a 19m mirror-clear pool in the grounds.
