A small, charming and well-equipped pousada offers peaceful accommodation on the shores of Ilha Grande.

This intimate, secluded pousada perches on a peaceful bay pitting the shore of Ilha Grande, a short ferry ride from Brazil’s gorgeous Costa Verde (Emerald Coast).  Behind it tower steep hills blanketed with deep green tropical foliage. It has just four guest rooms, two suites and an independent chalet so whichever you choose you can be sure of both privacy and personalised attention in what is effectively a home from home. Four of the rooms, embedded in flourishing greenery, have huge windows and an open-air terrace looking out over the glassy aqua-marine bay; the spacious suites offer even greater privacy.

Deliberately rustic yes, but this property is by no means basic – the bright air-conditioned rooms are beautifully decorated in minimalist style. The property’s management is very much mindful of eco-friendliness and it is powered by solar energy.

You can relax on sun-loungers at the water’s edge or follow forest trails to the island’s sandy coves and beaches.  The restaurant offers simple and nutritious Brazilian fare and there’s a waterside bar where you can enjoy cocktails at sunset. Venturing out, you’ll discover the lazy village Abraão, with a choice of bars and restaurants, just a half-hour’s stroll away or a short hop by boat.
