This overview of Brazil, Chile and Argentina takes you from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean, including three of South America’s most impressive cities.
You begin in Rio with its music on every street corner and football on every beach - all with a glorious mountain backdrop. Visit the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue for magnificent views.
At Iguazú Falls, step out of your luxurious hotel room in the national park to a thunderous roar as the river crashes over granite cliffs. As this is the only hotel in the national park, if you get up early or stay late you can be virtually alone on the edge of the falls, outside the park opening times.
Venture further into the rainforest for a real jungle experience: you’ll be able to observe exotic birds attracted to fruit trees in the reserve surrounding the lodge where you stay.
Move on to Buenos Aires, a city oozing culture and nostalgia. Head back into the countryside and the sunny vineyards of Mendoza, where some of the best Argentine wine is produced. Visit a couple of wineries then cross the Andes to Santiago and end your trip at one of Chile’s also highly regarded wineries.

What our clients say
97% of our clients rated their experience with us as Excellent or Good.
Most memorable experience? "Lots - Tour of Caracas, the canoe trip to Angel Falls plus the Falls themselves, the night bus trip to St Elena followed by good facilities to freshen up, Rock View (see above), the canopy walkway, which I surprised myself by taking in my stride (!), the somewhat challenging jungle trip by substandard "minibus" to Georgetown, the canoe and parogue crossings along the coast, the trip to the Iles du Salut and the visit to the Arane Space Station.
I was very happy with the experience, but I suspect that this was one of your more unusual trips, as practically all the places we visited were not usual tourist areas. But I got all I could realistically expect from such a tour."ET, Huddersfield
The variety of places that we visited. I enjoyed every place we visited. Food was good. Colourful towns. Friendly people. Beautiful scenery.JLK, Kenley
An extremely memorable trip, well organised, with knowledgeable and passionate guides. I'm so lucky to have had this great experience and not to have had the worry of organising it!JB, Bristol
I had travelled on a small group tour to Peru with JLA previously, so was fully expecting to be able to completely relax, safe in the knowledge that everything would be taken care of. I was not disappointed and the tour leader had everything running superbly. My three days extension on my own also worked like clockwork.SP, Aberdeen
A great mixture of the Andes and Galapagos - which covered all the main things I wanted to see. I was worried about sea sickness on the trip - but everything was fine and no-one on the cruise had any problems - just a fantastic visit. I advise anyone interested in wildlife to go - but make sure you do the full 7 days to get the full experience.CJ, Watford
How, if at all, could your holiday have been improved? "I could not imagine that my holiday could have been better."
"Cuba is changing, so go now before it's too late. Take in the Music and Dance on every Street Corner. Beautiful people, and a hard won Socialist ideal."CA, London
Most memorable experience? - Iguacu Falls were amazing. Boat trip under the falls and helicopter ride from the Brazilian side were truly memorable.
I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday to Brazil with JLA and was impressed with their organisation and local knowledge. Our tour guide, was excellent and went that 'extra mile' to make our holiday an enjoyable experience. During the Trogon itinerary I saw some amazing places not least, Rio de Janeiro, The Pantanal and Iguacu Falls. My private extension to Ouro Preto in Minas Gerais was also well organised and the local guides (both women) used for the private transfers looked after me very well. As a woman travelling alone it was good to know that my safety and security was a high priority.HP, Richmond
Trogon is an excellent holiday taking you from the bustle of Rio to the relative quietness of Paraty. Then on to the magnificent Iguasu Falls, before the thrill of the wild animals of the Pantanal and fishing for piranha.JDC, Sheffield
Sunrise over the Galapagos from top deck on my first morning on the boat, utterly stunning!MG, Leyland
The amazing scenery - every kilometre of the Carretera Austral, every turning, offers stunning views which never cease to surprise...I am impressed with the way it is possible to combine group tours with individual travel and with the flexibility available on the tours to meet individual needs. I find the whole booking experience from enquiry to final plans, very easy with great response from your office. The tour leaders are absolutely brilliant at what they do - I am in awe of their multiple skills!SC, Penryn
Most memorable experience - Difficult to select just one, but the visit to Iximche Mayan Site in Guatemala, was fascinating – great guide, and we saw a shaman performing a pre wedding ceremony.JB, North Walsham
Amazingly the trip was everything I had hoped it would be. Having wanted to go to Patagonia since I can remember, and having the opportunity arise fairly last minute, choosing JLA was a good decision! Great itinerary and good organisation left me to enjoy the experience!JA, Sutton
Machu Picchu was the ultimate climax at the end of the tour & definitely best to see it lastly. However all the previous places, people & food all definitely contributed hugely to a truly memorable trip - a visit to Peru with the preceding visits made the whole adventure far more meaningful & pleasurable.EA, London
I would recommend this trip to anyone who has an interest in magnificent scenery and wonderful wildlife experiences.CT, Antrim
Highlights? "There were many. Cuba itself is a fascinating country, a unique combination of geography, history, politics, culture and music. Highlights include: horse riding through the Valle de Silencio in Vinales, riding in an old American convertible car in Havana, visiting the Che Guevara Mausoleum and the Bay of Pigs Museum, numerous meals and drinks in restaurants and bars with great live music as a soundtrack to the tour, the intoxicating atmosphere walking along Obispo in Havana, a microcosm of Cuban life, the beautiful, faded architecture, different in each town we visited, the number of working horses everywhere, the resilience of Cubans in the face of grinding poverty and a repressive regime, spontaneous music performed everywhere at any time."DK, Coventry
There were many wonderful memories. Iguacu was amazing and Machu Picchu was intriguing. Landscapes were fascinating & the people were friendly. Lovely to see the colourful costumes & markets.JP, Nottingham
If anything, Tropicbird was undersold: it is a vibrant, colourful & exhilarating tour. It would appeal to those who visited and loved countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos, as well as South America, for their people's capacity for optimism, looking forward, valuing their heritage and welcoming curious travellers, regardless of the ravages of recent wars or current poverty. Just go!!FP, Edinburgh
Very satisfied with Journry Latin Americas service in the UK and a wonderful tour which was turned into an excellent experience by our tour guide and driver.JE, Southwell
The overall experience was friendly and efficient, seeing the most amazing places from high up in the desert to the wilds of Patagonia.CB, Beckenham
Though I've travelled a fair bit in Central and South America, this was a very different experience and so was memorable throughout for that difference. Other trips have focused on Mayan and Incan civilisations, on Spanish Colonial cities and towns and this trip was much more about the scenery and wildlife. The cities were vibrant and very European in feel without much evidence of colonialism. The skies were huge, the scenery spectacular, and the wildlife a joy.CG, Hexham
This is the third year that we have travelled with JLA and each time it was very well organised from start to finish. We have had three brilliant trips.JH, Radstock
Many good memories - arriving at Macchu Picchu was something we had wanted to do for many years, so was probably the most memorable.CA, Wembley
There are two moments that I wish I could return to again and again - watching the sun go down over the jagged rock formations of the Valley of the Moon and walking on the salt flats (the beauty of the place nearly brought a tear to my eye).DK, Dover
This was my second group trip to South America with JLA and it was just as fantastic - seeing the main sites such as Machu Picchu but also less well-known or off the tourist radar such as the inside of an Inca house in Ollytaytambo that added an extra insight to the culture and local way of life.
Tour was very well planned with excellent local Guides and the tour leader was brilliant.MBG, Malta
“Having previously travelled to Patagonia on a Classic tour we knew what the standards are and didn't consider anyone else. Our confidence was fully justified.”IJB, Birmingham
We cannot pick out one most memorable part of our trip as every day provided us with a new and exciting experience. We saw and experienced things we had only dreamed of, some of which had been in our dreams for over 48 years.TC, Hayle
As always, JLA provides very experienced guides and this ensures the success of the trip. They are very knowledgeable and go out of their way to ensure clients get a great experience.VH, Australia
The colourful people of Guatemala, the beautiful scenery at Lake Atitlan and the wonderful atmosphere of Antigua City.JR, Prudhoe
An amazing mix of experiences right from the start - sites/sights/sounds/climates/flora/fauna/city/country & so on!DR, Baldock
Enjoyed the trip to the equator while in Quito. Loved Alausi, very interesting place, people. Cuenca was lovely, very easy to get around, felt safe, staff at hotel very helpful, happy hour cocktails 2 for 1 delicious! Las Cajas national park very interesting. The Galapagos week was fantastic! Staff really professional, islands and wildlife more than I imagined, learnt to snorkel, scenery fantastic. The group were also really nice, and as a single traveller this made my holiday really special. And on the whole the weather was very sunny and warm. Enjoyed the picnics we had during our trips in the Andes, which the tour leader arranged, especially the exotic fruits which she advised us to try.JC, Bury
