Go tubing through sacred Belize caves

bel08-tubingsacredcaves-free

Float along in an inner tube as the Caves Branch River weaves in and out of a spectacular network of caves in Belize.

Drift along the Caves Branch River as it meanders through more than 10km of sacred caves including the popular Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave Belize. In ancient Mayan society caves were believed to be entrances to the underworld of Xibalba, and ceremonial centres, altars and artefacts dating back to the pre-Columbian era have all been found within this expansive subterranean network.

With a head torch to light your way as the river disappears into the darkness of a gaping limestone mouth, you can see the distinctive characteristics of each Belize cave. You’ll tour the best caves in Belize, many with self-explanatory names such as Footprint (after the still visible prints left by ancient shamanic priests), Waterfall, Big Drop and Petroglyph. In these atmospheric underground chambers you can admire the stalactites and learn about the intriguing belief systems of the Maya.
