Antelope Falls Experience

BEL26-AntelopeFalls-Belize-BocawinaLodge-HotelOwned-3

Rappel down Antelope Falls, a waterfall in the midst of tropical jungle in Belize's Mayan Mountains.

If you are up for a challenging jungle hike and the opportunity to rappel down the face of a gushing waterfall, head for Antelope falls in the Mayflower Bocawina National Park.  The falls are situated on the fringes of the Mayan Mountains just half an hour from the Caribbean coast.

It’s a two hour hike through dense tropical vegetation – quite tricky in the rainy season but well worth the effort – from the Lodge at Bocawina Reserve to Antelope Falls.  There are stops along the way to catch your breath and maybe take photos of the steamy tropical rainforest around you. Your guides make it a fun experience as they share their knowledge and anecdotes with you.

Just before you arrive at the falls, there is a cool natural pool which is a delight to bathe in to shake off the effects of the humidity. You are not obliges to swim, but In any case you are going to get wet as you rappel down the gleaming rocks  of the cliff over which the Antelope falls tumble.  A veil of spray accompanies you as you glide down, always supervised by the guides at the top and bottom of the cataract. Overall it’s an exhilarating and satisfying experience – you will feel quite proud of yourself when it is all over! The walk back takes about an hour.
