This adventurous family holiday takes you from Buenos Aires to Patagonia in the far south of South America. It’s a land of ice caps, glaciers jagged mountains and lakes at the tip of the Andes in Chile and Argentina. Explorations include a visit to the minty blue, cathedral-high Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina, and the wildlife-rich Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.
To the delight and awe of youngsters, the south is a true wilderness, where just a few rough roads cut through a frost-bitten landscape of glaciers, luminous lagoons, icy pinnacles and wind-strafed steppe. It is however readily accessible to all visitors, and our explorations are reassuringly comfortable for any older members of your party. You’ll also head north to the Atacama desert: the driest in the world. Here the scenery has a moon-like quality, with wind-carved rocks, fizzing geysers and pretty oases.

What our clients say

"Overall, the party gelled very well, the tour leader was a great guide and travelling companion we saw some wonderful sights - Machu Picchu and the other Inca sites especially. The geography of the Andes, the Salt Flats, the desert and moon valleys were stunning”JT, Ashford
It is hard to choose one particular part of the trip as it was all amazing but in different ways. One of the most memorable parts was the few days in Suchitoto, El Salvador and the optional town tour. Listening to the experiences of the people in the area was humbling.MF, London
Ever since hearing of Tierra del Fuego when I was a child of 8, I have longed to visit. The 'Land of Fire' sounded so magical. Now at 74, I have achieved a lifelong ambition and have had a holiday of a lifetime having visited the'End of the Earth' in a catamaran whilst travelling eastwards in the Beagle Channel to view the penguins and other wild life. Everyone in Chile, Argentina and during my brief visit to Brazil were very friendly and accommodating. The local transport provided was fine and allowed us to view the local scenery at close hand with adequate stops...All in all a brilliant holiday. Thank you.RH, Macclesfield
An excellent holiday made especially memorable by the leadership, thoughtfulness and humour of our guide.RL, Reading
It was a wonderful trip. It was all good. In saying what I say next that is not to denigrate anything else. However, here we were at the vineyards outside Mendoza. It is a beautiful day weather-wise. We have had a fine tour of the vineyard and winery. The vineyard is itself beautiful and peaceful. Now we are in a lovely modern building for the 'lecture' and tastings. I am feeling very happy. Can it get any better? Yes. I look beyond the lecturer out of the window and there I see the beauty of the vineyard and 'just' behind that of the high Andes. Breathtaking!IM, London
I have been travelling for over half a century but his was my first organised tour and it was wonderful. As I said on my return I would go again next week if my diary was not full, I needed a rest and was not minded to spend as much again so soon.
A well planned trip covering all the highlights we wanted to see.
A great trip, thoroughly enjoyed by a good group (of 8) that gelled well. We saw so much, did so much and and our expectations were well exceeded.GP, Woking
We were extremely satisfied with our Sandpiper Journey which provided us with a broad view of the Countries visited and the cultures, history, wild life etc. All in all, a great experience and a wonderful holiday.PH, Farnham
Just top notch. Great group of fellow travelers. Great tour leader. Chile was a surprise to me and in a good way. More diverse culture than I expected. People were very friendly. So glad I made the trip.JW, USA
Visiting 6 countries in 3 weeks is an incredible assault on the senses. Volcanoes, pre-columbian history, Spanish influences, the distinct colours of different countries, friendly people, amazing vegetation and exotic birds and animals.HF, Maidstone
I think that given the 3 week length and fitting in 6 countries will always mean that it is a very 'busy' tour and I think it is important to realise that it is a taster of each of the 6 countries. Any one of them could easily justify a longer stay. But a lot of people could not be away for a longer period of time. I am extremely happy to have visited each of the 6 countries. An unforgettable trip.
The 6 countries in Central America we visited all have a unique and distinctive culture, geography and atmosphere. This trip has created an incredible experience which brings a warm smile whichever of the many aspects I remember.
The Iguacu Falls were spectacular and most likely the most impressive Falls I will ever see. We were absolutely spellbound by the magnitude, scale and layout. Obviously, Machu Picchu takes your breath away. Nature and man-made wonders at their best!PK, Ashton-Under-Lyne
The trip surpassed our expectations and I have already recommended Journey Latin America to friends and even to people I talked to on a bus in Machu Picchu, one of whom was from the U.S.A.
A fantastic trip that includes highlight after highlight - from natural beauty to historical ruins. Lots of travelling but always jaw dropping views through the window. Highlights of the trip were Uyuni Salt Flats, Atacama Desert and Lagunas (flamingos so close you could touch them) and a return to Machu Pichu after 25 years. Our extension to Easter Island was a fantastic experience.DN, Peterborough
It was, in short, an unqualified success in all important ways. The local guides set a remarkably high standard in being knowledgeable, articulate and generally helpful, two or three of them outstandingly so. None of the hotels was less than comfortable and/or notable for its outlook and general amenities; those in Nicaragua and El Salvador were probably the best, while the Guatemalan and Belizean accommodation was betrayed only at times, mainly by the food it served. We took away an enormous variety of impressions, ranging from the sense of insecurity and awe created by all those volcanoes; through the surprise at the comparative sophistication and well-being superficially apparent in El Salvador and the interest in seeing potters, weavers, farmers and conservationists at work; to the ultimate satisfaction experienced through that artful blend of the natural with the man-made worlds characterising the Mayan sites of Guatemala and Honduras, most notably at Copán and Tikal which were the obvious highlights of the tour.TD, Oxford
Everything was memorable, a part of the world we've wanted to travel to for a long time. Views of Torres del Paine from the flight between Santiago and Punta Arenas were unexpectedly fantastic as the weather was so good and the tour leader had managed to get us all seats of the right side of the plane so we could enjoy them. Simply travelling over these vast expanses of land was amazing.DD, St Albans
It is an itinerary which covers different environments and allows interaction with the wonderful Colombian people plus time to see what is in each place.BD, Hartlepool
Though I've travelled a fair bit in Central and South America, this was a very different experience and so was memorable throughout for that difference. Other trips have focused on Mayan and Incan civilisations, on Spanish Colonial cities and towns and this trip was much more about the scenery and wildlife. The cities were vibrant and very European in feel without much evidence of colonialism. The skies were huge, the scenery spectacular, and the wildlife a joy.CG, Hexham
There were many highlights: Machu Picchu of course, also the Uyuni salt flats was unworldly, unique. La Paz, crazy city. Lake Titicaca beautiful. Great food almost everywhere. Stunning landscapes.MC, Ely
This was the first time I travelled with JLA and I have been impressed with the quality of personal service and enjoyed the itinerary very much.PM, Wirral
I saw truly unique scenery and interesting historical buildings & monuments but for me it was wonderful to see all that I did and stay in clean comfortable hotels on this 'Discovery' tour. Thank you JLA.MS, Lymington
The itinerary was fantastic and perfect for 3 weeks.AMT, Tadworth
Surpassed expectation. The excellent itinerary was enhanced by the tour leaders excellent knowledge and company.PM, Corsham
Lots of things, but, the statue of Christ the redeemer, iguazu falls, the tango dinner show, BOLIVIA, The group leader is a major part of the trip. A person who can bring a group of strangers together and make them join in, is worth their weight in gold?MD, Hawick
"This holiday far exceeded our expectations and was truly a once in a lifetime experience!"CD, Plymouth
Every place we visited is just so different, it's hard to pick the most memorable. I loved it all.SB, Ilkley
This was my first visit to South America and although I realise we only scraped the surface of this vast continent,I feel that i have had the most amazing experience and very much hope to visit again.
Climbing Villarica Volcano on a beautiful sunny day. Reaching the summit to see incredible views over the Andes and Lake District, the skyline peppered with snowy cones of of the volcanos, then peering into the gently smoking crater to see lava bubbling beneath us. Totally awesome!!!AP, Norwich
I will continue to recommend JLA as one of the best company I have used. The detailed planning of their tour was outstanding, their choice of local guides was excellent.MR, Greenford
There are several experiences we enjoyed on this trip. The lguacu Falls are amazing, couldn't stop taking photos. In the Pantanal the variety of birds was superb and we were lucky enough to see an ocelot. We greatly enjoyed our holiday, we were a small group of two couples so were pleased that the trip still went ahead with these low numbers.JT, Hemel Hampstead
An excellent specialist company with great attention to detail, abundance of local knowledge and great customer care. I have travelled twice with this company and will certainly travel with them again.AL, London
Overall an absolutely fantastic holiday. Arranged at last minute, there is no way that we would have been able to organise something like this on our own. Everything ran smoothly, the group leader was extremely helpful and the group got on very well together, in spite of a large age range. Thanks very much!RB, Kettering
The Eagle tour was one of the best trips I have had. Thank you all!HC, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Excellent professional service both before and during the holiday. Would certainly recommend Journey Latin America as a company to discover South America with.EW, Weston-Super-Mare
