At the beginning of the summer season, the snowfields are pristine and untouched by human visitors. Temperatures average around 3-4°C and colourful springtime flowers bloom across the island. Penguins and seabirds perform elaborate courtship rituals and seals carve out their territory. Most days will see some rainfall.

South Georgia

December - January

Temperatures reach highs of 8°C and nearing the summer solstice, daylight hours are incredibly long. More than 3 million fur seals sprawl across the beaches, including playful newborn pups, and penguins chicks begin to hatch. There is some rainfall on most days.

Penguin chicks begin to fledge and whales are visible offshore. Temperatures peak at around 6°C and there is rainfall on most days, though less than earlier in the season.
