Camp on the ice in Antarctica

Lit up tents in the snow in Antarctica

Enjoy an intense wilderness experience away from your cruise ship camping under the stars on the Antarctic ice.

Just voyaging on a cruise to Antarctica, with daytime land and ship-based exploits  is enough of a mind-blowing experience for many. But for some, the idea of being able to spend a night out on the surface of the continent, camping under the stars, will complete their adventure. Increasingly, this is possible: a number of cruise ships now offer the opportunity to pass the short Antarctic night outdoors, with nothing to separate you from the glacial southern night sky and the shadows of the ice-jacketed mountains and glaciers.

You will sleep (or not, depending on your level of excitement), accompanied by your watchful guides, in a tent or bivvy bag, inside a cosy polar sleeping bag , all equipment supplied by the cruise operator. You will have eaten beforehand as no food is allowed at the campsite, and will have to adhere to strict rules related to your interaction with the environment but surely this is one of the Earth’s greatest wilderness experiences.
