Travel Consultants
Caroline’s adventurous spirit has taken her right across Latin America, from Mexico to Cape Horn, with Colombia, Belize and Brazil standing out to her as some of her favourite countries. Of all the places that she has been however, she has a particular soft spot for Chile, a country she first visited aged 16 when helping out at a children’s camp and later a year living there.

Over the years Caroline’s love of outdoor pursuits has included kayaking to more daring activities, horse riding, learning to play polo in Argentinean Estancias, paragliding over Colombia’s coffee region, zip lining across Mexico’s Copper Canyon and abseiling down waterfalls in the Chilean lake district. She particularly enjoys white-water rafting and is also a keen skier.

Caroline has a degree in Travel Management and Spanish, having gained fluency during her travels. She loves South American food and music and is the first to hit the dance floor whenever salsa, merengue or bachata are playing.

My favourite place in Latin America

I've had the good fortune to travel very widely throughout Latin America, however, Pucón, in the Chilean lake district, has to be my number one destination. I've always loved adventure sports, and for adrenaline junkies like me Pucón is the perfect playground.

My top tips

Try a paila marina (a tasty seafood stew) in Santiago’s Mercado Central.

Want to ski in the middle of the European Summer? Head to Valle Nevado and ski above the tree line at high altitude: a very different landscape to off-piste forest trails in Europe.

When visiting Ilha Grande, make sure you take the boat and the short 20-minute hike to Lopes Mendes beach. The walk puts people off so it’s not overly crowded, but it is well worth the effort!
