Over forty years ago two British visionaries, Brian Williams and Chris Parrott, met while living in Rio de Janeiro. During their time there they travelled, separately, all over South and Central America. This was the 1970s, when only a few hardy backpackers set foot there.
Once back in London, capitalising on this experience, they founded Journey Latin America in 1980. As it name implies, it was to be a travel company specialising in holidays to Latin America. The two-man operation quickly grew. Flight sales and escorted group tours were supplemented in the 90s by our greatest innovation in the region: tailor-made holidays, where a growing team of Latin America-experienced staff create private itineraries to fullfil the dreams of a public whose awareness of the attractions of Latin America continues to grow exponentially.
Now, with 65 staff in our UK office and a dozen or so roving tour leaders we have assembled a truly dedicated team. The vast majority of us speak Spanish or Portuguese or both, and are extremely well-travelled on the continent. Some of us have been here for over 30 years, and some of us have spent our entire professional careers in this one company, which has always felt like a family. This is unusual in the travel business, and certainly beneficial.
But we don’t rest on our laurels: our knowledge is refreshed with frequent trips to inspect what we know and seek out new places to visit, places to stay, and things to do. We’ve always shared one ambition, to be the most insightful group of professionals anywhere in the world in travel to and within Latin America
To that end, over four decades, we have consistently chosen to be single-minded about Latin America. Other travel companies offering trips there come and go, but few are uniquely specialist in Ibero-America; few can offer such a broad portfolio of experiences and adventures. Our continuing tunnel-vision means that as we grow and progress, our ever increasing bank of knowledge and expertise shines through.
Our founders have earned their retirement; we have new partners now, but our close-knit team continues to operate with the freedom and independence which has always sparked our imagination and defined our brand.
