Arraial d'Ajuda Resort, Bahia

The beachside resort is a smart and cheerful place with a vast free-form pool and a good range of facilities including tennis courts and lessons, massage, a beauty salon and fitness centre, tai chi and yoga classes.

You can rent a boat or jeep to explore the hinterland of Brazil’s most exotic state - the cultural influence of the African slaves is most evident here, in the pretty colonial villages among the plantations - and the string of pearl-white beaches, many defined by coral reefs, which are one of the area’s greatest attractions. The resort has a children’s club and a nanny service for babies.

We’ve been there

"This glorious strip of coast resonates with an authentic Brazilian beat and is very popular with local people, especially in the peak holiday periods (Jan to Feb.) Not a lot of English is spoken but Bahians are patient and friendly."
