Posada del Angel is a charming and personal small colonial mansion located on a quiet street in the centre of historical Antigua. Owned by Texan Mary Sue Morris, its simple luxury and character have attracted many distinguished guests including Bill and Hillary Clinton.
The hotel has only five rooms, each uniquely decorated in an attractive traditional style and furnished with a wood-burning fireplace that is welcome on a chilly Antigua evening. The intimate public areas, tasteful and painted in bold ochre colours, lead out to a terracotta patio and quaint lap pool with overhanging tropical foliage.
Location
The colonial city of Antigua is 45km (a one-and-a-half-hour drive) from the country's capital, Guatemala City.
Posada del Angel is situated in the heart of Antigua, and is only four blocks away from the main square, on the Parque Central. Located in Guatemala's Western Highlands, the colourful Indian town of Chichicastenango and beautiful Lake Atitlan are just a few hours drive away.
Things to do
Set in the Western Highlands and between three volcanoes, Antigua is an essential component of a visit to Guatemala, or a more cultural and tranquil alternative stopover than the bustling capital, 45km away. The ideal way to explore the city's cobbled streets and colourful colonial buildings and churches is on foot.
You can take an excursion to one of the colourful Indian markets in the area. The most visited are the Thursday and Sunday markets in the village of Chichicastenango, a three-and-a-half hour drive from Antigua. |
