Chaa Creek is a tranquil jungle hideaway set in 330 acres of lowland rainforest in Western Belize. It was opened as the country's first tourist lodge by Anglo-American couple, Mick and Lucy Fleming in 1981. The focus here is on the area's natural attributes - its stunning surroundings beside the Macal River, archeological sites, and abundant wildlife, and there are many activities on offer to explore. Alternatively, you can simply relax within the lodge's tropical garden, or be pampered in its spa.
Location
Chaa Creek Cottages are scenically located at the foot of the Maya Mountains and beside the Macal River in the Cayo District of Western Belize. The nearest town is San Ignacio, reached by road or small plane from Belize City, or overland from the Guatemalan border, only 16 kilometres away.
The lodge is a twenty-minute drive from San Ignacio, 8 kilometres along the tarred Western Highway and a final 5km through the rainforest along a bumpy gravel road.
Things to do
The Mayan ruins at Xunantunich are still amongst the tallest buildings in Belize, and a they are a good trip to combine with a visit to the Vaca Caves with their pre-Colombian pottery.
There are clear trails for mountain-biking, horseriding and trekking, and birdwatching is very popular. It also possible to take trips into Guatemala and visit the Mayan ruins at Tikal; an overnight stay is recommended.
Escape For A Few Days More...
Head for the island cayes and relax at Victoria House, ideal base to explore the longest reef in the western hemisphere.
