Sacred Valley of the Incas and Machu Picchu
Mondays, Wednesday and Saturdays from Cusco
5 days, 4 nights
Enjoy a city tour of Cusco’s treasure-trove of churches, historic monuments and museums, continuing to the vast temple-fortress of Sacsayhuamán perched on a bluff above the city.
The following morning, drive to the Sacred valley of the Incas. At the ancient complex of Pisac, a spectacular stairway of Inca terraces climbs skywards above the indian market in the colonial village square far below. Continue to Ollantaytambo. The present-day village is dwarfed by the scale of the fortress but its simple homes and colonial courtyards still show off the carved masonry of their Inca foundations. Overnight in the valley
Next day, board the train to Machu Picchu with a guided tour of the ruins, and overnight close by. Return to Cusco by train and overnight. |
