Ancient Chavin and the Callejon de Huaylas

By road for 7 hours through the desert north of Lima, then turn inland and climb towards the Cordillera Blanca.

You will be based at Huaraz, market town and tourist centre. Enjoy a full day tour to Chavín de Huántar, the oldest of Peru’s pre-Inca cultures.

The ruins are famous for their 800BC stonework, and for sculptures and engravings of animals and deities. There is also a day trip to Callejón de Huaylas and the brilliant turquoise Lake Llanganuco at the foot of Huascarán, Peru’s highest peak (6768m). Return by road to Lima.
