Peruvian Amazon Excursion. Amazon Jungle Lodge

Day 1 Fly to Iquitos; from the port it’s 80km downstream by fast ‘riverbus’ launch to Explorama Lodge. There are 50 twin-bedded rooms with mosquito nets. The toilet and (cold water) shower blocks are separate. In the afternoon there’s a rainforest hike - in the high-water months it’s done by canoe.
Day 2 Morning visit to the Missouri Botanical Gardens’ ‘bushmaster trails’. Afternoon canoe trip along the Amazon in search of two species of freshwater dolphin.
Day 3 Morning walk along the ‘river trails’ to visit local settlers, a river school and a cane-rum still (made in Leicester in 1820 - you can buy samples). After lunch, return to Iquitos, and fly to Lima.
