Cajamarca
Archaeology and pre-Inca cultures
Daily from Lima
3 days, 2 nights
Arrive at Cajamarca, a delightful colonial town with a very ‘Andean’ atmosphere. Your city tour includes a visit to the ‘ransom room’ where the last Inca, Atahualpa, was held prisoner.
Next day, drive into the surrounding countryside: verdant mountain scenery and cattle pastures: the area is famous for its creamy dairy products.
Visit Cumbe Mayo, 20km from Cajamarca at 3500m, with its pre-Inca aqueduct. The tour concludes with a visit to the ceremonial site at Layzon, dating back to 200BC.
Depart from Cajamarca airport the following day.
