Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Your hotel in Mexico City is right at the historic heart of the action: the efficient Holiday Inn sits just round the corner from the huge central square, the Zocalo.
Day 2: Half-day tour of the city’s top sights, including the cathedral and National Palace, and a visit to the vast and mysterious pre-Aztec pyramid at Teotihuacán, 50km away. Breakfast included.
Days 3-5: Fly to Mérida, delightful colonial 'white city' in the Yucatán Peninsula. Spend 3 nights here at the prestigious, first class hotel Fiesta Americana, where the palatial façade reflects the top-notch service and facilities inside. This is an excellent base from which to explore the friendly town with its markets and cobbled streets and from which to venture out to visit Mayan ruins and local villages. Breakfast included.
Day 6: Excursion to the Maya’s pièce de résistance, the ruined city of pyramids, temples and sculptures at Chichén Itzá. Stay at a hacienda-style hotel nearby so you can visit when the day-trippers have gone home. Breakfast and lunch included.
Days 7-11: Continue by road to Playa del Carmen, a low-rise family-friendly resort on the Caribbean coast’s Mayan Riviera. Stay at the Hotel La Tortuga, a laid back little place with palapa-style thatched roof and a pool. Lively Playa del Carmen has loads of shops, restaurants, and bars and the white sand beach here is stunning. There are plenty of activities and excursions on offer which you can book in advance or locally, including watersports, trips to marine reserves and local archaeological sites such as Tulum and Cobá. Breakfast included.
Day 12: Transfer to Cancún airport. Breakfast included.
