Ecological reserve Daily from Quito 2 days, 1 night Combine an extraordinarily scenic journey through the high Andes – as you descend towards the Oriente – with a relaxing stay at the hot springs at Papallacta in the cloud-forest. The high páramo above the tree-line and the woodlands of the ecological reserve of Cayambe-Coca host a myriad of bird species including black-faced ibis, Andean teal, lapwings, caracara and siskin. You will pass the towering, snow-draped volcano, Antisana, the 4 peaks of which surround an ice-filled crater. Spend the night in the foothills at a spa hotel beside the Papallacta  thermal springs, where the inviting water is odourless and crystalline. Next day, follow the nearby well-marked trail skirting fast-flowing rivers and ancient woodland unique to the Andes. Drive back to Quito.
