Torres del Paine National Park, in the south of Chile, is one of the main highlights not only of Chile, but also South America. It is a trekkers dream to walk up and down the valleys surrounding the granite massif, and this 8 night trek, covering 100kms allows you to walk every nook and cranny, marvel at the peaks, glare at the glaciers and enjoy the most this park has to offer.
Day 1: Pick up from Puerto Natales late morning to be transferred into Torres del Paine national park, visiting the Cueva de Milodon en-route, famous for the findings of a supposed pre-historic mammal's skin.
Day 2: A return day walk (8 hours) to the Base de las Torres (Base of the Towers), the most iconic sight within the park. Weather permitting you will arrive to a look out point with the peaks towering above you beyond a glacial green lake.
Day 3: After a short transfer to Lago Azul you embark on the circuit, walking anti-clockwise. Today, you get your first glimpses of the southern ice field and from the campsite at Lago Dickson the views are breathtaking. Two nights are spent at Camping Dickson.
Day 4: A more leisurely day, including walks to Lago Quemado and close up to the Dickson glacier.
Day 5: Continue the trek between the granite peaks and the ice field, to Los Perros, approx 5 hours. This is the most remote part of the circuit and the gusts of wind can make this a difficult stretch.
Day 6: This is a long day walking, approx 10 hours, to Camping Grey. The views are sensational as you trek close to the Glacier Grey and have the finest views across the ice field.
Day 7: Enjoy a leisurely morning or have a go at ice-trekking on the glacier with crampons and ice picks! Set off early afternoon on the easy 4 hour descent of the valley to Lago Pehoe, and overnight in the campsite on the edge of this glacial-turquoise lake.
Day 8: Set off towards the Valle Frances and climb up the valley to appreciate the views of the lakes below, the hanging French glacier and the imposing granite Cuernos (Horns). Return to Lago Pehoe and take the evening Catamaran to Pudeto. A vehicle will be waiting to take you to Camping Las Torres, the start of your trek for a final night in the park.
Day 9: Early departure for the drive to Punta Arenas (6 hours).
