Daily, August to October from Florianópolis
3 days, 2 nights
At this time the coast of the southern state of Santa Catarina becomes the stage for an amazing spectacle, with the arrival of the southern right whales escaping the Antarctic winter.
They find refuge in a newly designated area of protection, 135km long, where they breed and nurse their calves. They come very close to the shores of the small bays, sometimes within 30m of the shore.
Boat trips will give you a close encounter with these giant mammals. There is a high likelihood of seeing the whales in season, although as with all natural wildlife phenomena, sightings are not guaranteed.
The day following your arrival in Praia da Rosa, enjoy an excursion by boat (20 passengers max) to seek out the whales. The trip lasts about 90 minutes and is guided by a biologist from the Institute of Right Whales. Watchers, who are distributed along the coast, inform the boat of the whales’ location. | Read more about: South Brazil
