Wildlife expedition in the Pantanal
Daily from Cuiabá
8 days, 7 nights
An opportunity to experience the three distinct eco-systems of the vast and remote Mato Grosso state in just one week: the southern reaches of the Amazon rainforest, the gorges and tablelands of the Chapada dos Guimarães and the wildlife paradise of the Pantanal wetlands.
The lodges and hotels used are comfortable tourist class with a high standard and variety of amenities (all have pools).
Itinerary
Days 1&2 Five hour drive from Cuiabá to Jardim da Amazônia Lodge, set on a river bank amid transitionary rainforest with a lovely garden and children’s play area. Guided forest walks and canoe trips.
Days 3&4 Spectacular drive to the Chapada dos Guimarães mountains, with easy hikes through this protected area of forests, ravines and tablelands.
Days 5-7 Continue by road to the Pantanal and Pousada Araras. Horseback excursions and night drives to view the multitude of birds and mammals which inhabit the region, including giant stork, capybara and alligator. There are also canoe and fishing trips - catch and eat your own piranha!
Day 8 Return to Cuiabá.
Pousada Araras is a delightfully relaxed 19 room lodge, 3 hrs’ drive from Cuiabá. We can organise a visit to this lodge in isolation for those who prefer to follow only the Pantanal section of this itinerary.
Our comment
"Particularly worthwhile if you are short of time; a taste of Brazil’s diverse geography without any internal flights and airport transfers to negotiate." |
