Itinerary

The road climbs northwards out of La Paz to La Cumbre pass, with the snow-capped peaks of Chacaltaya and Huayna Potosí on either side, then drops to 1,750m in 64km to a sub-tropical valley-cloaked in citrus orchards and banana plantations. Not a trip for the faint-hearted - the road is hair-raisingly hair-pinned, with sheer drops to eternity. Overnight near Coroico in a hotel with gardens and swimming pool.

Return to La Paz, with ‘photo-stops’ at strategic spectacular points.
