Fully supported camping/hiking package in Patagonia
Daily from El Calafate
6 days, 5 nights
This hike is named after the shape of the route taken through unique mountain scenery. The perpendicular towers and peaks of the dramatic Fitz Roy massif provide a magnificent backdrop to some of the best trekking in Latin America.
The mountains lie within the Los Glaciares National Park, which covers a huge area of over the Hielo Sur, one of the world’s largest ice-caps. In spite of the proximity to some of the region’s highest peaks this is relatively low-altitude trekking, although a good level of fitness is required; there is around 6-8 hours trekking daily.
The programme involves 3 nights at basic hostels and 2 nights’ camping. Trekking starts at El Chaltén, a few hours by road from El Calafate.
The 4 days of hiking will contain many highlights. You will pause at Piedra del Fraile, access route to the Patagonian ice shelf over a desert of ice; visit the Fitz Roy base camp and the Laguna de Los Tres, from where there are spectacular views; trek through dense sub-antarctic forest and past two lakes, Madre and Hija (Mother and Daughter).
There is even a walk (optional) on the Torre glacier, involving harnesses, ropes and crampons, which will be provided. Return to Chaltén via dense forests of southern beech. On the final day, take a public bus to return to El Calafate.
3 night treks also available.
How about?
