Modified from a naval vessel, this Chilean ship has been transformed into a superior expeditionary cruiser offering facilities and comfort of a very high standard for its guests, and the overall ambience is that of a rather smart hotel. It has an ice-strengthened hull, of course, and stabilisers.
The facilities
There are 7 categories of cabin, smart and cosy at the same time, each with private bathroom with shower or bathtub, individual heating control, closed-circuit TV and wardrobe. There are several outside observation decks. In the lower section of the ship is a small gym with running and cycling machines, and a sauna. Other public areas include the dining-room, bar, lounge, auditorium, fitness room, sauna, boutique, library and heliport. There is an open bridge policy so guests are welcome to go up and learn about the navigation instruments, and see how the course is charted.

The feel
The mostly Chilean crew are friendly and willing to explain what they are doing. The main social focus of the boat is the comfortable and attractive lounge-bar and dining room which has panoramic windows on three sides, sofas and a stripped wooden floor. A great place to relax, read, socialise and observe wildlife and scenery. |
